SEC Play with Auburn and Ole Miss in Oxford
Here we go, opening SEC play withAuburnat Ole Miss starting tonight. This makes another year forAuburnhaving to open the SEC season on the road, but will that stop their momentum? Surely not…
This tied series of 72-72-1 has been a grueling battle over the years. The most memorable one being when AU faced Ole Miss in the 2010 SEC West clinching weekend.Auburnis 29-42-1 all-time in Oxford and before the 2010 series hadn't won a two-out-of-three since 2004.
What to look for:
The staff seems to have put together a good set of pitchers for the weekend which have an ERA of 2.33, which would be Varnadore, Koger and Kendall. And you can’t forget Simpson and Speedy Gonzalez in the mix with their base stealing. They are leading with 14 stolen bases in the SEC.
Hitting is solid at .319 batting average and 50 steals comes with a price, however, the team has left 167 runners on base, for an average of 9.8 LOB per game ... The club left 501 on in 58 games last season, for an average of 8.6 LOB while scoring 5.8 runs per game ... This year the team is averaging 6.8 runs per game.
The Black Bear/Care Bears of Ole Miss do have some good hitting at the moment. The have the second highest batting average in the SEC of .334 with Yarbrough contributing with his .459 avg. The pitchers have yet to start in a SEC game at the moment so this might prove as an advantage for the Tigers.
Overall these games should be a good match up for opening season. I suspect this will be a low scoring series as well, but in the end WAR EAGLE will win!
