Lions vs. Raiders NFL Preview

Will the Detroit Lions be able to follow up an impressive win over the Baltimore Ravens with another good showing against the Oakland Raiders? They'll travel west to California looking for a second straight preseason win.

The first-team offense was on fire against the Ravens, with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson picking up right where they left off from last season.

Stafford finished 12-of-17 for 184 yards and two touchdowns, good for a 145.2 QB rating. He didn't have a turnover either.

His favorite target was a surprise, Johnson who had five receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. Yes, those are the numbers he put up in limited action in a preseason game! The guy is a special talent, no doubt about it.

The defense did a nice job too, limiting Baltimore to nine first-half points and 12 total. Joe Flacco finished with just 79 total passing yards, while Ray Rice had five carries for 12 yards.

This week's game could be tricky though considering the Raiders have been oh so close to winning each of their first two matchups. In truth, they're unlucky not to be 2-0 at this point.

The NFL picks for the game should be interesting as well, since the opening line of a pick'em has moved all the way to a three-point edge for the visiting Lions. The public is obviously loving Detroit in this spot.

And why not? Stafford and Johnson are already in mid-season form apparently and Jim Schwartz is a ruthless head coach who can't stand losing. He'll have his team amped up for this game regardless of the fact it's still only the preseason.

It's just hard to go against that Lions offense. They have Johnson sure, but don't forget about Titus Young, Brandon Pettigrew and the rest of the gang too. This is an extremely talented unit.
