The Savannah Sand Gnats are your 2013 South Atlantic League Champions!! The Gnats beat Hagerstown 2-0 Friday night to win the series 3-1.

Savannah won with just 2 hits.  In the 4th inning, Stefan Sabol doubled, scoring Brandon Nimmo and Dilson Herrera.  The rest was about the pitching.  Steven Matz threw 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 9.  Paul Sewald got out of the 6th and threw a scoreless 7th.  Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Beck Wheeler struck out 2 in the 9th to close out the game, winning the championship for the Gnats!  If you look around social media, you'll find some good stuff, but here's a video of Frank Viola getting drenched:

With that, the minor league season comes to an end.  It's been a blast covering it once again, and I want to thank everyone that read and commented on a regular basis.  Until next season starts, I will be doing my best to write a minor league spotlight on a prospect every Thursday.  If you want a daily dose of me, I provide a majority of the Mets coverage over at and there's bound to be plenty of minor league related articles there over the winter.  Thanks again everybody, only 6 and a half months until the 2014 minor league season starts.  LGM!
