For those who didn't notice in my tri-review piece, ECW has a new ring announcer. You might be asking "what happened to the old one, Savannah was it?" Yes it was, and she was fired.
Savannah (real name Angela Fong) had a developmental deal with the WWE and got a great opportunity to do ring announcing for NXT. To be fair, she was average at best at her job, and some sources have attributed her release to recent botches on the mic. As an informed journalist, I simply cannot accept this reasoning.
Again I must point to Savannah's developmental deal. She was signed AS A WRESTLER, so releasing her due to botches as an announcer would make very little sense. Perhaps a more accurate reason for her releases comes from her involvement in a film that was recently released. In this film, Fong appears topless. Though the film was shot before she signed her contract with the WWE, the release of such a film can cause bad publicity for the company. This was basically a face saving move in light of the PG environment and the growing campaign for Linda McMahon. It would seem that this transgression is quite minor, but at this time, WWE is taking no chances. I personally don't believe that this is grounds for termination, and for all we know, there is more to the story. However, it's not like she was a vital piece to WWE's success. She was already replaced and her replacement seems to be fitting in quite well. Since she has never really been seen wrestling, it's not like she was a cog in the women's division either. Life in the WWE will move on, and while I feel for Savannah, such is life. Mouthofthesouthshore.com wishes her the best for her future, and thanks her for her short and sweet stint with the WWE.
