The Savannah Sand Gnats tied the South Atlantic League championship series at 1-1 with its 6-2 win over Hagerstown Tuesday night. In the top of the 2nd inning, the Gnats drew 3 consecutive walks, and then a double by Jeff Glenn and a sac fly by Phillip Evans put them up 3-0. In the 5th inning, Dilson Herrera led off with a walk and then scored from 1st base on a double by Cole Frenzel. Frenzel scored 2 batters later on a single by Jeff Reynolds. Savannah could have added on even more but Eudy Pina and Brandon Nimmo struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. Pina would later triple and score on a sac fly by Nimmo to make it a 6-0 game.
Pitching wise, Seth Lugo threw 6 shutout innings, striking out 7. Paul Sewald gave up 2 runs in the 8th inning, but Beck Wheeler shut the door the 9th to secure the win. The best of 5 series is now tied 1-1. Wednesday is a travel day, as the series shifts to Savannah for the final 3 games. Gabriel Ynoa is scheduled to start for Savannah Thursday night in game 3 while Steven Matz is penciled in for Game 4 Friday night. The way those two have pitched, one has to feel good about Savannah's chances to win one, if not both games. If there's a game 5, Jake Keubler will start Saturday night.
