Rutgers gets the best of Syracuse in 2OT!
I was so excited for this game all week. It was a true must win for the Scarlet Knights, and they succeeded and won in double overtime. Syracuse played tough throughout the whole game, with their star RB Antwon Bailey who rushed for 124 yards on 23 carries and had 1 touchdown. On the other hand Rutgers was having a tough time running the ball with starter Jawan Jamison rushing for a low 48 yards on 24 carries. Throughout the game Chas Dodd wasn't playing his "A" game, so he eventually fumbled, and threw an interception. He ended up getting replaced by freshman Gary Nova out of Don Bosco Prep who ended up doing extremely well for playing very little so far this season. He threw for 122 yards on 14 completions and a game tying touchdown in the 4th quarter to star wideout Mohamed Sanu. Rutgers defense definitley came to play this game though as they had 3 interceptions and their special teams blocked a 44 yard attempt by Syracuse with 5 minutes left in the 4th. San San Te had multiple chances to put this game away. He did come in the clutch though and hit a 27 yard field goal to tie it at 16-16 in OT and hit the another one in 2OT to make it 19-16 Rutgers. Syracuse still had a chance to win but 6th year senior Edmond Laryea and second year LB Jamal Merrell who both tackled syracuse RB Antwon Bailey and stripped the ball and recovered it to secure the Scarlet Knights victory. This was a big win and a great way to start off conference play wait a 19-16 win in the Carrier Dome.
