Yesterday afternoon Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe first reported the story that Rasheed Wallace was retiring from the NBA, according to his agent. Washburn joined CLNS last night to discuss the story and discussed many possible ways the C's could use C's contract. None of those ways included the possibility that the C's would pay Sheed's $12 million to open a roster spot.
Today, according to NBA.com's Sekou Smith, that is exactly what happened.
The Celtics won’t be trading or bringing back Rasheed Wallace this season. Instead, the veteran forward was waived Tuesday after spending one year in Boston, league sources told NBA.com.
This is really hard to believe, but it's coming from a legit source so who knows. Why would the C's just get rid of this contract when it could be used as trade bait to get a solid wing player? I just don't get it.
The only way this makes sense to me is if Danny Ainge has a specific free agent he wants to sign right now. Maybe a guy like Delonte West or Larry Hughes? Who knows. I'm left to my last resort of saying, "In Danny We Trust".
