Hey folks, I’m back its been awhile, I haven’t really been able to do Eskimo blogs lately due to the fact I have been criss crossing North America the majority of August but I’m back and ready to blog about my favorite team in the Canadian Football League. While this team is my favorite this season sure hasn’t been the best, going into today’s game vs. the Riders they are 1-6, with no direction, no GM but thankfully loyal fans and still a shot at the postseason.
The Esks, have had many games slip through their fingers such as a week 2 loss to Montreal where they couldn’t finish off the Als to blowing a week 6 game vs. Toronto but the refs were not exactly the best in that game to getting downright embarrassed which happened 2 weeks ago in their 56-15 to Calgary where the Esks went down swinging literally as a brawl broke out on the Calgary Stampeders sidelines that lasted for about 10 minutes. Head coach Richie Hall knows he’s on the hot seat and I personally like Richie myself and finally he is getting tough on his team, Richie has been known to be a “players coach but its clear he’s had enough stating in the Edmonton Sun “The problems lie not in other teams knowing what the Eskimos are going to do, it’s the Eskimos not being able to do what they want to do”. Tough but true words from the 2nd year head honcho of the Green and Gold.
Going into their week 9 matchup vs. the Riders who have a record of 5-2, things look tough for the Eskimos. Saskatchewan is coming off the bye week, and 2 weeks ago demoralized, deboned and declawed the BC Lions with a 37-17 win. Darrian Durant is firing on all cylinders tied for 3rd in the league for passing TD’s with 11 every week he’s finding more and more ways to hook up with Andy Fantuz and Rob “shopping” Bagg.
It will be key for the Esks to try and pressure Durant into throwing the ball away and make him run across the field east and west and not north and south with his scrambling ability.
Ricky Ray will get the start today admit “rumors” that he is not fully healthy after bruising his sternum in the Eskimos loss to Calgary 2 weeks ago but that has not been confirmed by the Eskimos coaching or training staff. The Esks are a banged up team, with no Fred Stamps due to a dislocated shoulder, but Ray still has Kelly Campbell, Andre Talbot and Andrew Nowacki as threats downfield along with Arkee Whitlock in the backfield.
Prediction: This is an Eskimos team that has been humiliated and has had enough, I think Richie Hall will finally bring this team together to try and keep their season alive with a close 27-25 win today.
