Rick DiPietro, the 1st-overall draft pick in 2000, was considered to be the Islanders' franchise goaltender. Unfortunately, Rick DiPietro's career was derailed by injury, preventing him from reaching his projected star-potential.The move should come as no surprise. The only reason why the Islanders took this long to rid themselves of  Rick DiPietro's comment was because it could have saved Vancouver $3M if they chose to part with Roberto Luongo, but the Canucks opted to part with Cory Schneider instead, so any little bit of value that Rick had left to the Islanders' organization...
