The Maine Red Claws, NBA D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, announced today that they will be hosting a preseason game against the Springfield Armor at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, Maine. Last year, in their innaugural season as a D-League franchise, the Red Claws also played a preseason game in Augusta.
Similar to the Boston Celtics trips to Hartford, Connecticut and Manchester, New Hampshire this seems to becoming a tradition for the Red Claws. For those of you who are not familiar with the geographical location of Augusta, it is about 70 miles north of Portland. Making the trip into the upper part of the state allows the Red Claws to entertain fans who might not be able to watch a professional basketball game otherwise.
The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings in the Kennebec Journal this morning. “The Red Claws have had tremendous support from the Augusta area, and we are thrilled to be making a return trip to the state capital,” Jennings said. “We had a great season in our first year, and it all began in Augusta. We are looking forward to launching our second season there.”
The game will be played on November 15th, four days before the Red Claws' home opener at the Portland Expo. Tickets are available at the Augusta Civic Center Box Office, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone by calling (207) 626-2400.
The Augusta Civic Center Box Office is open 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Ticket prices range from just $5 for upper bleacher seats to $30 for courtside seats. The game will feature performances by the Lady Red Claws dance team as well as popular Red Claws on-court MC “JG” and Maine’s only basketball playing crustacean, Crusher.
