The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, announced today that they will have the 3rd pick in the NBA Development League Draft on November 1st. The NBDL Draft is the first step in putting together this year's Red Claws squad.
Overall in the draft the Red Claws will have seven picks in the "snaked" draft, in which the order of picks is reversed after each round. As a result of the draft being "snaked" the Red Claws hold the 30th, 35th, 62nd, 67th, 94th, 99th, and 126th pick in the 128-player draft.
Last year in the draft, the Red Claws acquired rights to players like Paul Harris, Darnell Lazare, Anthony Terrell, and Tony Bobbitt. All of these players had succesful tenures in Portland at one time or another. Lazare, however, was the only player out of the draft to finish the season with the Red Claws.
“This (draft) is the first step towards building the 2010-11 Red Claws,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “We are looking forward to the draft in November and beginning our second NBA D-League season.” As a reminder, Celtics Tommy Heinsohn will be at the Portland Expo (home of the Maine Red Claws) this Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm as part of their "Pick-A-Seat Day". He will be taking pictures and signing autographs for fans.
