Raul's hit streak continued...Dom Brown hit his first career home run...Gload hit 2...but it just wasn't enough.
Let's start with the pitching. It's funny to think back to 2007 when Kendrick was our number 2 and JC Romero was our setup man. They should have skipped Kendrick in this spot. He gets killed by lefties and the Dodgers are all dangerous lefties. Contreras and Durbin were the only 2 pitchers who didn't allow a run in a game where the Dodgers not only won 15-9, but were never really threatened because they were never kept off of the scoreboard. Particularly egregious was David Herndon's back breaking 4 earned in 2 innings pitched when the Phils had pulled within 3 runs. His ERA is up 4.82 on the year and is starting to look about as reliable as Baez.
At the plate, the bats did their job tonight. You score 9 runs, you should win a ball game. Ross Gload continues to swing a hot bat as he goes 3 for 5 and is now hitting .291 on the season. He hit 2 home runs, scored 3 runs, and knocked in 4. He has 6 home runs and 21 RBI on the season. Not bad for a guy who only has 103 at bats on the year. Lets also mention Dominic Brown's great night. 2 for 4 with his first home run and 4 RBI on the night, giving him 10 in 35 at bats. Silly projection time: Brown in on track for 60 RBI on the season!
The Cubs are beating the Giants, who are a game above the Phils in the Wild Card but a blown save by Matt Lindstrom knocks the Phils to 2.5 games back off of the division lead. They get back at it tomorrow when Chad Billingsley takes on Roy Oswalt at 7:05 at the Bank.
The new Madden game looks cool...although it still can't hold a candle to NCAA '07:
