So just when you started thinking that the Oakland Raiders were going to try to clean their image up with the new regime prepare to be disappointed. As first reported on twitter Oakland Raiders LB Kaluka Maiava and his brother were charged with assaulting two men at a bar in Hawaii. Being an NFL player can often make someone a target in a bar. It seems more and more often these days players are finding themselves the target of one lawsuit or another.
Maui Prosecuting Attorney John Kim says the 27-year-old Maiava and his 30-year-old brother, Ilima Maiava, are charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal property damage, a petty misdemeanor.
Maiava and his brother are both accused of beating up two men during a brawl at "Life's a Beach" in Kihei on March 17. The worst fact is that was four days after the Raiders signed Maiava for a three-year, $6 million contract. The Wailuku native played four seasons with the Cleveland Browns after being a fourth-round pick out of Southern California. More was expected by the fans out of Reggie McKenzie and his staff and their first impression on the organization post-Al Davis.
The players certainly seem to want to keep things quit as Maiava's agent couldn't immediately be reached for comment Wednesday. The brothers were served with summonses on July 2 when prosecutors learned they would be on the island.
