Jonathan Bernier played the first two periods, stopping all 18 shots but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes scored late to tie before winning on a goal by Shane Doan 3:54 into the overtime frame.
Alexei Ponikarovsky scored his first goal in a KIngs uniform at the 12-second mark of the second period. The score remained 1-0 until new Coyote Kyle Wellwood evened the score with 1:43 remaining in regulation.
Although he was the losing goaltender, Jeff Zatkoff played a good game stopping 18 of 20 shots.
