On a day when Ryan Howard went on the DL, Roy Halladay shined in South Florida.
Halladay went 7 strong, allowing only 6 baserunners and striking out 9. His 13 wins are now one more than any Phillies pitcher had last year. His 2.17 ERA is otherworldly. And his 2 RBI single icing on the cake. Even better, Charlie pulled him at the right time, in a game that had already been decided.
At the dish, Chooch continues to hit. A 4-5 night, he fell a triple short of the cycle, including his 4th home run on the year. He also now has 22 RBI and is hitting .294 on the year. Ben Francisco's home run right before Ruiz's (they went back to back) was his 4th of the season as well. This is the kind of team effort on offense that is going to be required for this team to stay afloat with Victorino, Howard, and Utley, all the DL.
With the win and Braves loss, the Phils now sit only 2 back of the Braves. Amazing considering what this team went through injury wise this year. Anibel Sanchez will take on Kyle Kendrick tomorrow at 7:10 as the Phils look to win their 3rd straight.
