So the Phils win their 5th straight and 12th straight at home. However, this game was smudged by 2 bullpen pieces that continue to dissapoint.
Danys Baez was a horrible signing, made even worse by the fact that its a 2 year deal. He's become useless. He had a 7-2 lead and only got 2 outs while allowing 2 baserunners, his ERA sitting at 5.21 on the year. Even worse, JC Romero continues to pitch badly as well. He has allowed 5 more walks on the year than strikeouts. This crappy display overshadowed a good start by Joe Blanton, going 7 strong allowing only 2 earned.
At the dish, Cooch, I mena Chooch, continues to destroy opposing pitching. A 2 for 4 night gives Carlos a batting average over .300 for the first time all season. He also had his 14th RBI in the last 10 games, giving him 27 on the year. Not to be glossed over either was the contributions of Mike Sweeney on this night. His first two hits as a Phillie both came in the eighth inning. He started the rally and contributed an RBI with the last hit of the inning.
The red hot Phils now take on Mets ace, Johan Santana as he takes on Cole Hamels tomorrow night at 7:05. Hopefully Hamels can carry them to their 6th straight win.
