These Phils keep rolling as they take down the lifeless Marlins for a second night in a row down in hot as heck South Florida.
Kyle Kendrick. For what he was supposed to be this year, he really has come through. It's hard to forget he was our number 2 starter in 2007 in the playoffs against the Rockies. He really only made one mistake that Mike Stanton hit a moon shot off of. 8 hits and no walks over 6 innings was good enough to get him win number 7 on the year. The one earned run dropped his season ERA to 4.37. Contreras (9) and Madson (2) were each credited with holds until the Phils blew it open in the 9th where Lidge pitched a second consecutive clean inning for the first time this year.
At the plate, patience was the word of the night. Although the Phils banged out 11 hits, it was the 7 walks that helped the most and knocked out Anibel Sanchez in the 5th. Raul Ibanez, who is now in the midst of a 12 game hitting streak, had a great night, going 2 for 3 with a walk to raise his OBP to .355. He also had 2 RBI on the night, giving him 53 on the year.
The Phils acquired 37 year old Mike Sweeney from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash. This should help soften the offensive burden until Ryan Howard gets back and give us another legit right handed bat off of the bench when he does return.
Bust out the brooms becuase the Phillies go for the sweep tonight at 7:10 when Roy Oswalt looks for his first Phils victory against Chris Volstad. They remain 2 games out of the division lead and 2.5 out of the wild card.
