Heart. It's what defines this team and why they are so easy to like. They are never out of it unless the game is actually over.
Roy Oswalt was not sharp and that was apparent as soon he let fly on his first pitch that Brandon Phillips deposited in the seats. All in all, he wasn't horrible, but he was buried by 2 home runs. However, the bullpen came in and was totally flawless. Romero, Durbin, Contreras, Madson, and Lidge each held the Reds off of the scoreboard as Contreras was credited with the win, Madson the hold, and Lidge with the save.
At the dish, no one punishes mistakes more than the Phillies. A critical Jay Bruce error (reminscent of the Mike Cameron error in the NLDS game 1 game against the brewers) was misplayed horribly and allowed the Phillies to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Raul Ibanez, Chase Utley, and Jayson Werth combined for 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 RBI, and 2 walks. Another intresting hidden stat was the 3 of them combining to see 71 total pitches. Great performance by all of them.
Its now up to King Cole in what will be a rocking and hostile environment on Sunday night at 7:07. It will be the first ever playoff game at the Great American Ballpark. Bust out the brooms Phils fans, time to send the Reds packing.
