Well the Phils certainley sleepwalked through most of this one before finally realizing they were going to be on the wrong side of a possible 4 game sweep.
I feel safe in making this statement: Cole Hamels is back. Despite not factoring in the decision, Cole did everything in his power to give this team a chance to win. Hamels threw 7 innings of 1 run ball and saw his ERA on the season lowered to 3.63 and is looking every bit the number 2 this team needs behind Roy Halladay. Good thing we don't have Cliff Lee! We wouldn't want Cole as a 3...sorry. Chad Durbin pitched a scoreless inning and earned his first win of the year while Brad Lidge nailed down his 7th save.
At the dish, the Phillies didn't do much until their 4 run explosion in the 9th. Charlie went with an interesting lineup batting Vic leadoff and Jimmy third. Who hit second? Welcome back Placido! Polanco had the key hit and his smart baserunning allowed him to advance to second on the throw home, third on the passed ball that Gload scored on, and then scored on Jayson Werth's walk. Werth by the way had a good game going 2 for 4, reaching base 3 times, and picking up his 50th RBI on the year. His average is up to .279 and hopefully his bat is waking up. Raul Ibanez also had 2 hits and knocked in his 41st RBI on the year.
The Phils will go for the split tomorrow as Roy Halladay takes on Tom Gorzelanny at 8:05 in the espn game of the week. Halladay tries for win number 11.
