Roy Oswalt's second start in a Phillies uniform went much better than the first as the Phils sweep the Marlins in South Florida.
Roy pitched pretty well and was probably pulled too soon. He should have been able to finish out the inning but only allowed 3 hits, 4 walks, and 2 earned runs. His ERA sits at a solid 3.50 on the year. Ryan Madson pitched a great 9th inning to get his 4th win on the year and Lidge saved his 13th of the year, allowing only a single hit.
At the plate, Raul continues to rake and scorch. He now has a 12 game hitting streak and, after a 3 for 4 night, is now up to .275 on the year. His double off the wall to jump start the comeback in the 9th was his 22nd of the year and he's up to 54 RBI. However, the game winning hit was delivered by Chooch, a bomb over the tall left field wall, his 5th of the year. This cappped off a great night by the backstop in which he was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI (26 on the year). Even crazier, 13 or HALF (!) have been in the last 9 games.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention 2 huge breaks that the Phillies caught that allowed them to win this game. The 9th inning comeback started with a Hanley Ramirez error and was ended with 3 consecutive baserunning errors on the Phils part when Raul got thrown out at home and both Werth and Brown were thrown out stealing.
The sweep keeps the Phillies 2 games out of the division lead and 1.5 games out of the wild card. The Phillies open a 3 game home set against the Mets tomorrow night at 7:35 when Joe Blanton takes on Jonathan Niese.
Give it the full 50 seconds, totally worth it:
