Juan Castro: an MRI revealed a mild strain and he remains day to day. With no timetable for Jimmy's return, Castro will probably avoid the DL. Wilson "Juan" Valdez will continue to start in his place until he heals. Valdez had a key two run single which blew the game open for good, putting the Phils up seven runs yesterday.
Scoring quirks: In the final game of the Cardinals series, there was a ball that was misplayed because of the sun by Jayson Werth which was originally ruled a hit. Then, for some weird reason, Amaro went to the press box and later even summoned Werth to tell the official scorer that it glanced off of his glove. It was changed to an error and lowered Halladay's ERA.
Halladay's 6 wins: His 6 victories in the Phillies first 7 games was the first time a pitcher for the hometown nine accomplished this since 1947. We really didn't need that stat to realize how great he's been. With half as many wins as any Phils starter last year by the first week of May, you know some records are going down.
Robin Roberts: one more amazing stat about his complete games. Total games started in his career: 609. Total complete games: 305. That is more than half of his starts in his career that he went the distance. Imagine going to the ballpark to watch him pitch and knowing there was a coin flip chance that you were going to see a CG. For comparison purposes, Roy Halladay, who is quickly becoming, if not already, the most dominant pitcher of our generation, has 52 complete games in 294 starts, or roughly 17%.
