Perez outguns Abdusalamov in heavyweight clash
The co-main event in New York at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden featured heavyweights Mike Perez and Magomed Abdusalamov for the US NBC championship. The 27-year old Perez came off a ten-round unanimous decision over Travis Walker in May 4th in Mannheim Germany in which he won every round.
The entertaining and interesting bout went the 10-round distance with Perez winning his first title. Two judges at ringside had it 97-92, and the third, 95-94 for Perez, 20-0, 12 KO’s the native of Ciego de Avila Cuba and fighting out of Cork Ireland.
“He fought like champion, I didn’t,” said Abdusalamov.
The 32-year old Abdusalamov from Mahachkaia Russia has been excellent with stopping opponents. A two-time Russian National champion, he came into the fight undefeated in 18 fights, all via knockout. His last fight on April 27th in Buenos Aires Argentina, he stopped Sebastian Cebellos in the first round.
