Pelfrey's Performance Ends Mets Streak

Iy6lbbff

The New York Mets (41-39) are putting Mike Pelfrey (4-6 4.78) to sweep the series versus the Detroit Tigers.

Ace pitcher, and arguably the best pitcher in the MLB, Justin Verlander (10-3 2.38) will take the mound to stop the Mets from doing so.

Pelfrey hasn't faced the Mets in his career.

Verlander in his last 6 starts, has won all of them, averaging less then a run a game in those starts.

Mets have won the seires against the Tigers no matter what happens in this game. Very Impressive series

Mets set a record with 52 runs scored in the last 4 games, hopefully they can continue.

In 2004 the Mets were 1 pick away from Justin Verlander, they had to take Phillip Humber.

Willie Harris has left the team because his baby's death, Fernando Martinez will come up to replace him during this time.

Nick Evans has a 19 game hit streak in Buffalo.

Today is the last day to vote Jose Reyes to the all-star, so vote!

In the top of the second inning, Daniel Murphy took a 96 mph fastball over the right field fence, and gave the Mets a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Johnny Peralta singled, and was moved over to second base on a groundout by Alex Avila. Austin Jackson with two outs, then hit a single off the end of his bat to center field, scoring Peralta to make the score 1-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, Pelfrey's woes continued. Starting off with a Victor Martinez dougle to right field. Andy Dirks then singled, and Peralta walked. Alex Avila then hit a sac fly to left, scoring Martinez. Then Santiago, with the runners stealing on a 3-2 count, hit a single to center field which scored Andy Dirks. Pagan then overthrew 3rd base, and Pelfrey was backing up, and then Peralta scored to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 5th, Pelfrey still in the game, Andy Dirks hit a home run to deep right center field. The score was 5-1.

In the top of the eighth inning, Carlos Beltran with 2 out hit a home run to right field, about the same place Murphy hit his. That made the score 5-2.

Tigers' closer, Jose Valverde closed the game out at 5-2 in the 9th inning.

Mike Pelfrey (4-7 4.92)  took the loss after another bad performance. He allowed 5 runs, 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 5 walks, while striking out just 3 on 109 pitches through 4 2/3 innings.

Mike Pelfrey is very inconsistent, and General Manager Sandy Alderson should be thinking about what to do with him next year..

Justin Verlander (11-3 2.32) didn't nearly look as good as he has been, but he was good enough to receive the win. He allowed just 1 run (home run) on 7 hits, 2 walks, striking out 6 batter on 120 pitches through 7 innings.

Jason Bay has looked very good on this road trip. Today he had 2 hits in 4 at bats.

Manny Acosta who made a fantastic play in the 8th inning, jammed his thumb and was taken out of game. No news on him at this time.

The Mets' bats weren't bad, but they couldn't get the runs in when needed. Pelfrey looked awful and didn't help the Mets cause being that they had to face Verlander. Since the Mets won the series in Detriot, you can't be upset with this performance.

Tomorrow the Mets will invite the Yankees over to their home, Citi Field. If the bats can continue, they should do well being that they won't have to face C.C. Sabathia, who pitched today with 13 strikeouts.
