Paul Spadafora returns to HBO airwaves when he fights Thomas Dulorme on August 17 in Atlantic City. The fight will be aired on HBO Latino.
The fight will be held at 140 pounds as Dulorme as worked his way down to the weight since losing to Luis Carlos Abregu at welterweight. Spadafora will be returning to HBO for the first time in over a decade.
Spadafora is still undefeated at 48-0-1 (19 KO) and will be the most experienced opponent Dulorme has fought. Spadafora has spent the last six-and-a-half-years fighting low key opponents on the East Coast circuit looking for a break.
He has gone 10-0 during that time and has looked good in his last two fights. This will be his biggest challenge since he fought Leonard Dorin in 2003 for the IBF, IBC, and WBA Super lightweight titles.
Returning to HBO and fighting a power punching prospect is the break he was searching for.
Dulorme is 18-1 (13 KO) and lost to the only good opponent he fought. Abregu knocked him out in the seventh round. This is yet another step up for him and it will be interesting to see how the power puncher deals with a master boxer like Spadafora.
Networks have seemed hesitant to feature Spadafora so this is the step in the right direction for his career and will hopefully get him back into the mix as far as the networks are concerned.
A win here would get him back in to the mix at 140 pounds and could lead to a title shot in late 2013 or early 2014.
