Oswalt wins...Raul hits again...Ross comes up lame.
This is the Roy Oswalt we traded for. Oswalt's 7th win on the year was only his first as a Phillie as he is now 7-13 on the year, a horrible record for someone with an ERA of 3.34. He went 7 strong, struck out 5, and only allowed 7 total baserunners. Closing the door was Ryan Madson (4th hold) and Brad Lidge (15th save). Great night for a shutout from the Phils pitchers after exhausting the bullpen in last night's blow out loss. 8 baserunners allowed on the night...9 strikeouts.
Not much was doing at the plate but there were 2 developments. Ross Gload, who's been swinging a hot bat, pulled up lame on a double in what is being described as a mild groin strain. I don't know, if you ask me, any time you hurt your groin, it's not going to be mild. I expect him to be put on the DL and John Mayberry to be called up until Shane comes back Friday. Raul, however, hit in his 18th straight game, going 2 for 3 with an RBI double, now hitting .277 on the year. Domonic Brown drove in the other run, driving his RBI total up to 11 in 11 games.
With the Braves winning, the Phils remain 2.5 back, as Clayton Kershaw takes on Joe Blanton tomorrow 7:05 at CBP.
One of my favorite soccer players ever retired. Here is probably his biggest career goal:
