Aug 11- NOJHL/CCHL Selects vs OJHL 1 Selects

This was not a pretty game for the NOJHL/CCHL Selects. Less than 2 min in Anthony Repaci (of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens) takes a feed from Matthew Alvaro (St.Michaels Buzzers, Petes prospect) after the later took a bone cruching hit to make the pass. 2 minutes later Doug Bonar, of the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, makes it 2-0 with a snap shot from the the top of the right circle. And at the 5 minute mark Abbott Girduckis  ( Wellington Dukes, Belleville Bulls) puts home a goal to make it 3-0.

The feverish pace of goals slows down and Jake Emilio, Cobourg Cougars defenseman, takes a roughing penalty. That doesn't slow down OJHL 1 as they control the play and get a few chances like they were on the power play. This strong penalty killing and speed causes NOJHL/CCHL to take a penalty of their own.

On a delayed penalty call Michael Vered (Nepean Raiders, 67's)) finishes off a 3 on 2 with Tanner Lafrance (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners) and Brett Garvey (Brockville Braves) to make it 3-1. Jason Bednarski starts to play great and is all over the ice. Starting to show why the Espanola Riverman center is one of the youngest players here. He is one of only four '97 born players in the showcase.

Stephen Hladin (Georgetown Raiders/Gatineau Olympiques) roofs it upstairs on a feed from the corner by Abbott Girduckis. 4-1 OJHL 1. Another '97 born is also picking up his game and is rewarded when he bangs in a shorthanded chance at the end of the half. 4-2 OJHL 1 midway through the game.

Tyson MacLeod ( Blind River Beavers) takes a penalty 10 seconds in for tripping. Matt Alvaro makes him pay with a wrap around goal 30 seconds into the power play. Another hot start by OJHL 1. Minutes later Michael Prapavessis (Toronto Lakehore Patriots, Saginaw Spirit) sneaks in from the point and riffles one home. Now a whopping 6-2 OJHL 1. With Jeremy Picard-Fiset (Kirkland Lake Gold Minors) in the box Adam Brady (Kingston Voyageurs, Owen Sound Attack) buries a power play goal from the dot on a feed from Matt Alvaro. After both teams swapped penalties the game ends as a blow out. OJHL 1 completely dominated the NOJHL/CHL.

PROSPECT REPORT

Bradley Bell- Sudbury Nickel Barons- NOJHL

Bell is a small but slick defenseman. He may not have size on his side but he definitely has smarts. Makes good first pass and loves to rush the puck out of his own zone. Good stick when defending. When team is down he tries to take control of the game, which is why you love him, but sometimes it comes at a defensive cost. Paired with a big, burley defensive defenseman would be ideal. Mississauga Steelheads prospect.

Ryan Theriault- Espanola Riverman- NOJHL

97' born has great size standing at 6'2 and 195 lbs. He uses that size to make room for himself on the power play, especially in front of the net. Also used on the penalty kill where he can kill time off the clock along the boards. Good shot and good speed for his size. Not flashy but ends up on the score sheet . Could a team pick him up with a late round pick in the '14 OHL Draft? Wouldn't bet against it.
