Game of the week Review: Wellington Dukes vs Buffalo Jr Sabres

The Buffalo Jr Sabres led by GM/HC Michael Peca made their first trip to the Essroc Arena to take on the league leading and nationally ranked Wellington Dukes.  The Dukes faithful wouldn’t have to wait long for the scoring to open when third year player Erick Delaurentis would send one to the mesh, with Justin Bean picking up the helper. That would be the only goal of a very back and forth period.   Darren McCormick would tie things up at 12:06 before 1 minute later when Western Michigan commit Trevor Cope would regain the 1 goal lead.  The third period would see the large chunk of the scoring with Buffalo’s Max Mikowski tie the game at 8:00. Joe Mckeown would respond 39 seconds later scoring a nice goal in the blue paint. Luc Brown would add to the lead with a tip of a shot from rearguard Austin Broadhurst. They game would remain 4-2 till Pat Egan would tighten the gap at 19:53 but with Buffalo’s goaltender pulled, Erick Delaurentis would pot the empty netter.

Game of the Week Preview: Kingston Voyageurs @ Trenton Goldenhawks

The battle of the East Divison Titans will see the Vees and GoldenHawks faceoff at the Duncan Memorial in a battle for 2nd place in the East division.  In a division where one day your second and the next you’re in fourth place, this game will be key for both teams to make headway in the ultra-competitive east.  The 401 series should see some high emotions and a lot of physical damage, the trainers should make sure they have the cold tubs and ice packs ready.

3 stars of the week

Brady Wiffen (TRE) F, 3gp 5g 3a 8p

The versatile and gritty forward had a breakout week. Wiffen being the only returning player from last years squad, he adds so much to this squad.

2. Erick Delaurentis (WEL) C, 2gp 3g 2a 5p

The Third year Wellington forward has come into this year with high expectations, and so far he is meeting them. Leading this team on and off the ice, Delaurentis plays a rugged in your face type of game.

3.  Sean Darroch (WBY) F 3gp 1g 1st goal of the year

After going through a tough injury in the offseason the Whitby forward has had a tough battle in working back into the lineup, finally this week Sean posted his first goal of the week. Hopefully he can get back into form.  Good luck Sean.

Rookie Of the Week

Justin Bean D, 2gp 1g 1a 1GWG

The Belleville Bulls draft pick has been up and down between the Bulls and Dukes, but in the last two game Justin scored his first OJHL point and goal, which was a game winning goal. The slick puck moving defenceman should be one to watch in the future.
