Many people have told me this season that the American League East is way harder then the National League East. That is not true, the NL East is the strongest division in the league.
First, the NL East is the only division to have four .500 teams after the all-star break (Phillies, Braves, Mets, Nationals). Every team plays each division team 18 times per season. Obviously it is way harder for teams in the NL East to win games against their division then it is for any other team because each division team would have to play 72 games against their division. 72 games is almost half of a full season (44%).
The best team in the league, the Philadelphia Phillies have a winning percentage of .626 with 57 wins and 34 losses. The second place Atlanta Braves trail the Phillies by only 3.5 games in the NL East. Yes, the AL East has 2 teams over .600 but the Braves are only 2 games out from being .600. AL East also doesn't have 4 teams over .500.
Lastly, good pitching is key to success down the stretch, and the NL East has the best pitching in the league again with the Braves (2.99) and Phillies (3.04) leading in earned run average. Even the Marlins have a better ERA then 2 of the AL East teams.
Yankees/Red Sox fans, stop talking about how good your division is, because it really isn't as good as the NL East. All NL East teams have a brighter future then the AL East, meaning that the NL East will stay stronger then the AL East.
The lucky Red Sox/Yankees get the Orioles 18 times. At least 15 wins come from the Orioles every year. Anyway here are the standings by league in my opinion.
