News and Notes heading into New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Much of the talk following Kentucky Speedways race last week was the traffic. Fans sat in race traffic for up to six hours prior to the race and many sat much longer after the race.

Fans were turned away as the night wore on due to lack of parking. We can all admit it was handled poorly by all the parties involved.

In the end it was the fans that got the raw end of the deal after spending their money to travel and attend the Speedway’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

On Friday NASCAR President Mike Helton addressed the traffic situation and promised that there would be a resolution moving forward.

What wasn’t talked about so much after the race was the product on the track.

Kentucky is known for its bumpy surface but we have seen the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series all race on it and the racing has usually been very good.

Last Saturday night good would have been being too kind. The racing featured mainly 240 laps of parading around single file.

You couldn’t pass another car and when you did you had to risk driving on the bumps. Driving on the bumps was the last thing you wanted to do (well besides sitting in traffic, sorry).

The final 20 laps or so were exciting because of the green, white checkers that followed. Now I watched the race again this week and it was tough to watch. We have seen this similar style of racing on some other mile and half tracks but most other tracks you can at least pass.

I get why they moved the race from Atlanta to Kentucky. The crowds were huge but the qualities of racing better improve or those same people might not keep coming back there.

Lucky number 200…

This weekend will be Clint Bowyer’s 200th career NSCS start. Its hard to believe that Bowyer has made 199 starts already but here we are at New Hampshire and the milestone couldn’t have come at a better time.

Bowyer has dropped to 12th in the standings with eight races to go till the Chase. He still has no wins this season but that could change this weekend.  Two wins at NHMS, two top fives and four top 10 finishes. This could be the weekend he breaks through.

In 199 starts he has four wins, 30 tops fives, 87 top 10’s and his average finish is 15.5.

Keeps on winning…

Kyle Busch this weekend will look to notch career win number 100 in either the Nationwide series race or NSCS race on Sunday.  In his 99 previous starts he has 22 NSCS wins, 48 in the NNS and 29 in the CWTS.

Stop the bleeding….

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. needs to have a solid run this weekend after the last four weeks of free falling through the standings.

He had very good springs on the track but summer has not been very kind to them. Earnhardt is looking for his first win of the season but he sits eighth in the standings.

NHMS could come at the perfect time for him to get back on track after a rough month.
