New York Mets Fall to Houston Astros 7-3 on Saturday
| Written by: Jon Presser @ The Shea Faithful

Limp dickey

The New York Mets lost to the Houston Astros Saturday as R.A. Dickey was ineffective and the Mets could not muster much offense after the Astros scored four runs in the 1st inning.

The Mets could not recover after the four-run 1st, and the Astros tacked on three solo homers for good measure and held on to win 7-3.

The Mets managed just five hits in the first 8 innings before rallying for a run on two hits in the 9th.

What I Liked:

Jose Reyes went 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Justin Turner drove in a run with an RBI single, going 1 for 5 out of the two-hole.

Jason Bay went 0 for 1 with three walks and a strikeout.

Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with a solo homer.

Scott Hairston went 1 for 3 with a strikeout.

Fernando Martinez went 1 for 4 with a double, narrowly missing his second home run in as many days.

Jason Pridie hit a pinch-hit double in the 9th inning, his second game in a row with a 9th inning double.

Mike O'Connor went 0.2 IP, striking out one on ten total pitches.

Pat Misch went 0.1 IP, hitting a batter to load the bases before getting out of the inning.

What I Didn't Like:

R.A. Dickey allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in the first inning, eventually going 5.1 IP, 6 runs, 11 hits, 2 home runs, no walks, and 2 strikeouts.

Ryota Igarashi gave up two home runs in 1.2 IP, ending the Mets bullpen's scoreless inning streak.

David Wright went 0 for 3 with a walk.

Ronny Paulino went 0 for 4 on only 10 total pitches.

Willie Harris struck out as a pinch-hitter.

The Mets went 2 for 8 with RISP, leaving 8 on base. Reyes and Turner had the two hits.

Game Ball:

Goes to Reyes in an otherwise underwhelming game for the Mets.

Mets Haiku:

Disappointing game

Couldn't muster much offense

Go get them Sunday

Up Next:

The Mets and Astros will play the rubber game of their three-game series at 2:05 pm, with Chris Capuano facing off against Aneury Rodriguez.
