The San Antonio Spurs have announced that Gary Neal did not join the team to Phoenix for Wednesday’s game against the Suns.
Neal sustained a left shoulder stinger in the third quarter in the San Antonio’s 124-89 victory over Portland when he ran into a solid pick set by Blazers forward Kurt Thomas.
The Spurs say that Neal will miss Wednesday’s game in Phoenix and Thursday’s game in Golden State.
Neal underwent X-rays after the injury which coach Gregg Popovich termed were negative.
In his last six games, Neal has averaged 12.5 points per game, shooting 56 percent from the field.
With the West top seed already secured, giving Neal some time to heal is a "no brainer".
His hustle, toughness and ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc will be a big factor for the Spurs in the post season.
The NBA playoffs will start this weekend.
The Spurs will meet either the Utah Jazz or the Phoenix Suns in the opening round, and expect to learn late Thursday when will their first post season game will be.
