NASCAR Nationwide: Feed the Children 300 Preview

In the second of three races being held at Kentucky Speedway the NASCAR Nationwide series will hit the track Friday night.

After a very exciting and dramatic finish last weekend at Daytona International Speedway series regulars will be looking to continue to find victory lane after Joey Logano scored his first win of the season.

Kenny Wallace came out of nowhere in last weeks last lap crash at DIS. Wallace spent much of the day mid pack but as the leaders began wrecking he weaved his way to a seventh place finish.

Wallace is seventh in the Nationwide series standings heading into Kentucky this weekend. This weekend could be a challenge for Wallace as this is not his best track overall.

His average start is 22.6 and his average finish is actually 24.4. His best finish was 17th back in 2005 and his worse finish was 37th in 2009.

Last years event held hear he finished 22nd but for Wallace and his team then that was a solid run for them. This season Wallace’s expectations are far greater and with good reason.

He had a resurging season for the journeyman racer. His average finish is 15th and he has six top 10 finishes to go along with that.

If Wallace hopes to make up any ground in the standings he needs to find a way to come out of Kentucky with a solid top 10 finish.

Justin Allgaier just a few weeks back at Road America was looking at his second win of the season as minded the twists and turns. Instead what happened was he ran out of gas and went from first to last.

That point swing sees Allgaier now trying make up lost ground in the standings. He is fourth in the standings and 37 points behind series leader Reed Sorenson.

This will be just his third start at Kentucky but in both his previous visits his worse finish was eighth and that was last season.

With an average finish of 6.5 he has started both races in the top five with two third place starts. Allgaier has done a solid job of bouncing back after tough finishes this season. He finished 19th at Road America only to come back to a fifth place finish at DIS.

Allgaier is looking to become the first series regular to win two races this season and has a very good chance of doing that.

Kentucky is a comparison of Kansas and even some say Chicagoland but more so Kansas. Allgaier has found success on both these tracks so this weekend win number two could be coming.

My drivers to watch on Friday night are Allgaier, Elliott Sadler and Trevor Bayne.

The Feed the Children 300 is Friday night 7:30 ET on ESPN.
