The first couple races haven’t exactly gone as planned for Greg Biffle. After getting caught up in the 17 car wreck at Daytona International Speedway, he finished 35th.

Last weekend at PIR, he qualified 10th but they struggled with the handling of the car.

Unable to get the car the way Biffle needed it they ran around 15th for much of the race. In the end they fell off the lead lap and finished 20th.

“It just wasn’t our day,” said Biffle.  “We made a lot of adjustments on the car and nothing really seemed to help.  This isn’t the way we hoped to start the season but we’ll just have to put this behind us and get ready for Vegas next week.”

Now sitting 28th in the standings Biffle cannot afford another poor finish. This makes this weekend race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway all the more important.

Biffle needs to collect points and that means a top 10 or even a top five run. We saw this last season they started off slow but picked up pace as the season wore on.

The problem they face is the new point system magnifies poor finishes and as the season goes on early season struggles can cost you.

Should this team be panicking? Probably not as they are more than capable of stringing together solid runs.

This new points system though limits the number of poor finishes you can have especially early on in the season.

That makes this weekend’s race one to watch for Biffle and his team.

At LVMS, Biffle has one pole, one top five and five top 10 finishes. His average finish is 12.9 but he tends to run well in the top 10.

Roush Fenway Racing has always run well at LVMS and lead the series with six victories.

It’s early in the season but Biffle early season struggles have put his team in a hole. This is a very important weekend in a very young season.

Not only because of the points hole they are in but these are the types of tracks where this title will be either won or loss.

They have the speed in practice but that doesn’t equate to how they will run in the race as we saw at PIR.

Biffle and his team should right the ship this weekend and start their climb back into Chase contention.
