For Ron Hornaday it was a very successful finish at Phoenix International Raceway. He started fourth and finished third, netting his first top five of the season.
He moved up 10 positions in the points to 10th and this weekend at Darlington Raceway he will be looking to find victory lane.
Hornaday hasn’t won since Martinsville last fall and last year at Darlington he started fifth and finished third.
This weekend also marks the 400th start for Kevin Harvick Inc. Truck program and Darlington is one track Hornaday and KHI has never won at before.
Darlington though is considered one of the toughest tracks on the circuit. The egg shaped track is narrow and you never can setup the truck to be good at both ends of the track.
This makes coming up with the perfect setup far harder than you would think. “I’m really looking forward to having another solid finish at Darlington. We finished third here last year and it was a best for KHI. We hope to set another best for KHI and bring home a victory. This track can be a beast if you aren’t careful. The track is pretty narrow so there is a lot of rubbin’ that goes on during the race."
For Hornaday and his team they seem to be inching closer to victory lane. They had a good truck at Daytona International Speedway, only to get caught up in a wreck.
Two weeks ago at PIR, they ran in the top 15 the entire race. In fact, Hornaday never ran outside the top five; his lowest running position was fifth at PIR.
There are only eight tracks he has yet to win at in the CWTS and Darlington is one of them.
For his teammate this weekend Elliott Sadler, he is looking to improve his best finish of the year by one. Sadler had one of the best cars at DIS but came up short against Michael Waltrip.
Sadler will be looking to find victory lane for the first time since his popular win at Pocono last season.
“I really enjoy racing at Darlington Raceway. I have had a lot of success there in the past and think it is important anytime that you can go to a track and get some extra track time. I have had a lot of fun competing in the Truck Series and I’m ready to try and tame the track they claim is “Too Tough to Tame” as we try and get our first victory of 2011.”
Sadler has never run a truck at Darlington Raceway but he has run this truck’s chassis before.
This is the same truck that he won at Pocono with and Hornaday finished second with it at Homestead Miami Speedway.
For both Sadler and Hornaday they are gunning to bring KHI its first win of 2011, first at Darlington and win number 34 for the growing organization.
