After a few weeks off for the Camping World Truck Series they head to Kentucky for a midweek showdown.
The standings are close after Ron Hornaday’s win at Texas Motor Speedway. Current points leader Johnny Sauter had the lead on the final restart but a critical mistake passing before the start finish line took away the win and closed the gap between him Cole Whitt.
Now the top five are separated by just 41 points and 33 points separate Hornaday from Sauter.
This weekend at Kentucky Speedway Hornaday will be looking to make it two wins in a row this season.
He won this race in 2009 after starting on the pole. He led 29 laps in route to his second career win at Kentucky.
Hornaday has been as consistent as one can be this season. His worse finish was 30th at Kansas. He has seven top 10 finishes in nine races this season.
Hornaday and his team heading into Kentucky have momentum on their side which means they can’t wait for the race.
“Kentucky is a really fast race track, and has really unique characteristics with the bumps. I’ve got two wins at the track and will definitely be going for my third. The fans have always been so great and supportive at this track, and with all three series there this weekend, they will really have a great experience. We have a new sponsor on board this weekend with Wisk® Laundry Detergent and are hoping to give them a good run in this No. 33 KHI Chevrolet.”
It has been a rough season for last season’s series champion Todd Bodine. He is 13th in the standings heading into this weekend.
He has only tow top fives and two 10 finishes this season this after earning 17 top fives and 20 top 10’s in 2010 as a whole.
To say it has been a struggle is an understatement for the champion.
He won this race in the fall last year but his best finish was second here in 2005. In nine races this season he has had four finishes of 20th or worse.
He won this race a year ago after starting 14th. Bodine is confident this team is more than capable of winning again on Thursday.
“It’s definitely a better state of mind heading to Kentucky Speedway after our win there last year. We know we can get it done. We already knew that because we’d always run well there in the past. But, getting the win last year proves it. We have high hopes for the Georgia Boot Tundra this week at Kentucky,” said Bodine.
This is a big weekend for the series as the summer heats up. Every mistake can be costly and every position gained or lost can cost you the title.
The UNOH 225 is Thursday 8ET on SPEED.
