The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series are back on the track Friday at Dover International Speedway.
The one mile concrete canyon is known for grabbing trucks and spitting them back out. For Ron Hornaday he is still looking for his first win of the season.
He isn’t that far off from victory circle in 2011. He has ran pretty consistent every week and has avoided the troubles that have gotten his competitors into trouble.
In last years race Hornaday started sixth but ended up finishing 12th on the day. His best run here was in 2007 when he led 91 laps onto his way to his first win at Dover.
This weekend Hornaday comes into Dover with a string of four consecutive top five finishes. His worst finish this season was at Daytona. Since then Hornaday has quietly moved up to fourth in the standings and just five points behind series leader Johnny Sauter.
Hornaday solid runs this season has this team ready for victory lane. “I know that this No. 33 team is ready for a victory. We had it there at Nashville but came up short. The combination that we have together on this team with Jeff Hensley is great. Dover is a place where your track position and pit stops are crucial. I’m confident that we will unload with a great package and be able to start and stay up front.
For rookie driver Cole Whitt he sits fourth in the standings and has never seen the Dover before. That’s why his strong practice sessions on Thursday were encouraging.
This weekend he will be looking to find victory lane for the first time this season. The young driver is still learning the series and his competitors but since his 33rd starting spot at Daytona he hasn’t started worse than ninth.
His solid qualifying results have turned into solids runs with his worse finish coming at Nashville Super Speedway, 12th.
My pick to win this week is Hornaday. He is right there and every week he and his team are making adjustments in the right direction.
Other drivers to watch are defending series champion, Todd Bodine. His season hasn’t exactly gone as planned but this could be the weekend he gets back on track.
Also, Matt Crafton is another driver I think should run well this weekend. Is teammate might be leading the points but Crafton is not that far off himself.
The Lucas Oil 200 is at 8:30ET on SPEED.
