It looks like Joe Sheehan, former long-time contributor to Baseball Prospectus, has taken a job in the Pirates' front office as "Baseball Operations Data Analyst." That makes Sheehan the second BP alum to join the Pirates' front office staff, joining Dan Fox. In addition to being a great writer Sheehan is a very smart guy, so this is some cool news. (Via)

There are also two more bits of news from the first(!) day of workouts. In addition to Joel Hanrahan being hurt, the Pirates also mentioned that Ramon Vazquez had knee surgery in November. He should be ready for the start of the season, provided he makes the team (which is no sure thing).
