As the names continue to drop for the Monster Jam World Finals competition in Las Vegas in March, fans are guaranteed to be delivered excitement this year.
One of the drivers that will deliver it without a doubt – Jim Koehler. The two-time Freestyle World Champion will be bringing his 1957 Chevy “Avenger” to Sam Boyd Stadium in hopes of picking up his third crown.
To put on a good freestyle run, Koehler says part of that is taking a good look at the obstacles beforehand.
“I just look at all the obstacles and see if I’m on this side of the obstacle how I would attack it,” Koehler explained during an interview in 2012. “If I’m over here, how would I attack it? I size up three or four good hits where this jump is going to be my best jump for big air, this jump is going to be for a sky wheelie or something crazy, this one over here – it’s going to be an awesome cross thread; I hope nobody does it before me ‘cause I want to be the first guy to do that.”
It’s also about picking out three to five spectacular moves that you are going to use during the run, since he says you don’t want to use them right out of the gate.
“You want to save them for more towards the end or for bonus time,” he said.
Once you have those ideas in mind, it’s all about finding a good way to start it off.
“I hate starting the same way as people one or two guys before me,” he commented. “So if they use my idea, then I will have to change up my plan a little bit.”
Koehler is part of the spectacular truck line-up for this weekend’s Rogers Centre show in Toronto, Ontario that also includes Ryan Anderson in Son UVA Digger, Neil Elliott in Maximum Destruction, Chad Tingler in Grave Digger, among others. Tickets are still available for both the Saturday 7pm show, and the Sunday 2pm show, through http://www.ticketmaster.ca with Pizza Pizza Kids Tickets just $15.
