Missouri dismisses A & M, eyes Oklahoma
In their first true road test of the season, the Missouri Tigers walked all over the Texas A&M Aggies with a 30-9 victory to improve to 2-0 in Big 12 Play and 6-0 overall. Behind the 361 passing yards and three touchdowns thrown by Blaine Gabbert, the Tigers outscored the Aggies in every quarter, except the last one when it was all but over. Perhaps even more impressive is the stout Missouri defense, who didn't give up a touchdown to a potent Aggies offense until the fourth quarter. The win prompted the Tigers to a BCS ranking of 11, as they get ready for their national showdown with number one Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Sooners are also 6-0 and have wins over the likes of Air Force, Texas, and Florida State, all of which are or have been ranked this season. While the Sooners bring into Columbia the 12th best passing attack in the nation, their rushing game isn't as intimidating, at 56th. Nonetheless, OU will have to go up against a Missouri team who is 2nd in the nation in points allowed at 10.8 per game.
With Texas knocking off Nebraska last week, this match-up for Big 12 supremacy becomes even more important. For Oklahoma, they are looking to avoid being the third straight top ranked team to lose, while the Tigers are seeking revenge from a Sooner team that beat them twice in 2007. With Missouri playing Nebraska in two weeks, these next few games will show just how legitimate Mizzou's chances are in contending for a Big 12 Title and possibly a BCS berth. The Mizzou-OU game will take place on 7:00 PM Central Standard Time nationally on ABC.
