Miami Dolphins: News & Notes from Training Camp
157

Just wanted to take a couple minutes and update you on a few things from recent days at Training Camp as we gear up for our 1st Preseason game of the year, this Saturday, August 14th @ 7pm against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Make sure you check back on Friday for some notes and things to watch for in the Preseason game!
Tony Sparano had this to say about Cameron Wake, "The light is starting to come on." Wake is exceptional in the pass rushing game, and has been working diligently to improve stuffing the run, and dropping into coverage. Sparano also added that Wake has been more efficient at attacking the run as of late, so hopefully big things are on the horizon for the EarthQWAKE in 2010
The offensive line is still very fluid. With the exception of Jake Long, almost everyone has been moved from side to side, moved from 1st team to 2nd team, and so forth. At this point the OLine is far from being set in stone, much less the positions that each player will play. A few injuries have also exacberated the process, however its way too early to get concerned. Sparano is a former line coach, and our unit was one of the top in the league last year, it won't take long for them to gel. However, the thought that they could be finding a way to improve upon last year should gives you shivers.
Brandon Marshall continues to dominate at camp. However, he has said, "After a while (Dolphins cornerback) Sean Smith adjusted to me, and now he’s been beating me. So now it’s time for me to get in the lab and watch film and come up with different techniques to beat him". This is the kind of news I love hearing, as it shows that our 2nd year defensive backs are coming along just fine. Practicing with Marshall will only continue to improve Smith and Davis all season long. While no doubt they will have lapses this season, they will continue to progress towards being a dominant secondary.
I'm a little bit concerned with Tyler Thigpen. It almost seems every day that we hear about him throwing a pick or 2 at camp. He's very much like Brett Favre in that he often tries to make something out of nothing. The sooner he learns to check down or throw the ball away, the faster he'll improve.
Pat White has been getting very little reps as of late, and has been used sparingly according to Omar Kelly. His chance of making the 53 man roster are slim to none barring a Thigpen/Pennington trade. My guess is the coaches will showcase him during the Preseason games hoping to garner some interest from others teams.
Jared Odrick is apparently becoming very impressive. Today he blew up Jack Long for a sack, and many people have noted that he is "ready for NFL Left Tackles already.
Newly signed TE David Martin says he's, "still got some catching up to do". Most fans are hoping Martin returns to his old form and pushes for the 2nd TE spot. Still waiting to see how the injury affected his performance.
Injury Notes: O-lineman Nate Garner is on crutches after an apparent leg injury, C Jake Grove still out with a bruised leg, CB Evan Oglesby, and ILB Tim Dobbins both sat out with ankle injuries, Will Allen rested once again.
Dolphins will practice again tomorrow at 9am, and then take Friday off to prepare for the Preseason game on Saturday.
