Just now, Manager Terry Francona has set Sunday's starter to be Kyle Weiland to fill in for the injured Jon Lester. For those that don't know a lot about him, Weiland was a third round draft pick in the 2008 draft coming out of Notre Dame.
Weiland's been a top pitching prospect through the system, working his way up from A Lowell, all the way to AAA Pawtucket over the last three years. Each year showing more signs of progression and no set backs by being called back down.
Here's his scoting report:
90-95 mph Fastball
High 70's sweeping curve
Throws both 2 seem and 4 seem fastballs
79-83 mph Change up
projected to be a late inning arm, but could have the makings of a third starter
If the task goes as well as the Sox Management hopes he could be at least into the bullpen by September. We here would like to wish Weiland the best of luck on Sunday when he faces the Orioles.
