According to ESPN.com, veteran swingman Matt Barnes has inked to a deal with the Toronto Raptors. Barnes last played with the Orlando Magic for one year. Barnes made the confirmation via his Twitter feed.
The deal is reported about $10 million for a span of two years. It’s believed Barnes participated in a sign-and-trade, but sources say they haven’t confirmed that.
Barnes was rumored to go to a title contender like the Miami Heat or Los Angeles Lakers. The Boston Celtics were also rumored to get him. Instead, Barnes will have to stay with a rebuilding team after the suffering of losing Chris Bosh and Hedo Turkoglu, and are likely headed for a not-so anticipated year.
The 30-year-old is coming off a season with 8.8 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game.
This fits well to the addition of several other players like Linas Kleiza, Dwyane Jones, and Leandro Barbosa. Although it isn’t something to be hyped up about for the 2010-11 season for Toronto fans, at least they are going into the right direction.
