While most of college football is holding its collective breath about possible conference expansion and realignment, Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick (and most of Conference USA) can't wait to see what happens.
The Thundering Herd (and most of Conference USA) are hoping/counting on the Big 10 leaving the Big East with several major holes to fill. Rightly, this article names C-USA members Central Florida, Memphis and East Carolina as possible Big East targets and Houston as a potential Big 12 target and Marshall, as well, second tier.
But you know Herd fans are holding out hope that their disastrous move to C-USA could somehow miraculously turn into a Big East membership and a yearly matchup with rival West Virginia.
But that's hard to envision. Fan base, TV numbers, facilities-wise, Marshall just isn't at that level. But you have to think this immediately puts more pressure on new coach Doc Holliday to rebuild a winner - quickly.
