Yesterday afternoon I finally got the chance to enjoy my first fresh Maine lobster of the year. Coincidentally, today the Maine Red Claws announced their 2010-2011 season schedule. If you're not in "the loop" and have missed out on what's going on up in Maine I'll help you catch up.
This season, the 2010-2011 season, will be the second full season for the Red Claws in the NBA Developmental League. The Red Claws are the official D-League affiliates of the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats. Last season, members of the Celtics roster such as Bill Walker, J.R Giddens, Marcus Landry, and Lester Hudson all saw time on the Portland Expo floor in a Red Claws uniform.
The Red Claws share very close ties to the Celtics organization. Their current GM Jon Jennings spent multiple years as a member of the coaching staff and their current head coach is Austin Ainge, the son of Celtics current GM Danny Ainge.
Last season the Red Claws tied the D-League record for most wins by an expansion team and set the record for most straight sellouts with twenty-four. Today, the organization was pleased to announce the full schedule for the upcoming season.
The Red Claws will open up their season at home on November 19th against the Austin Toros. That game will be part of a back-to-back weekend against the Toros at The Portland Expo, home of the Red Claws.
This season the Red Claws will once again be attempting to tie their straight sellout record with twenty-four out of their fifty games being played at home. On January 11th and 12th the Red Claws will play two games in Las Vegas at the Showcase. The Showcase gives D-League players a chance to show off their skills to NBA scouts. The Red Claws will also host last year's D-League champions, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, on March 24th and 27th.
