After the first off week of the season the NASCAR Sprint Cup series headed to Bristol Motor Speedway for the Jeff Byrd 500.
Clean sweep…
Kyle Busch loves BMS. Coming into the weekend he had swept all three events last August. Then he went on to win the Nationwide race yesterday. Busch didn’t have the best car all day but when it counted his team got it done on pit road. Busch did his work on the track and worked traffic to perfection and showed aggression and patience to conquer BMS.
Busch held off pole sitter, Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson on the final restart to take the checkered flag. Busch moved up to sixth in the standings.
Denny Hamlin
For Denny Hamlin the day didn’t go as planned at BMS. After starting mid pack, Hamlin was working his way forward when contact trying to avoid a slow Jeff Burton saw Hamlin’s day end early. Hamlin suffered too much damage and saw his chance at winning end early.
He finished 33rd and dropped none positions to 17th in the standings.
Bouncing back…
Busch won the race after a rough weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where he finished 38th after engine issues.
Jeff Gordon had a cut tire at LVMS and finished 36th. On Sunday he finished 14th after struggling with the handling all day. Greg Biffle who has had his share of tough finished finally got a top 10 finish in a eighth.
Lug Nuts…
-Kurt Busch leads the standings by one point over Tony Stewart who finished 19th.
-Bobby Labonte finished 13th and moved up to 14th in the standings.
-Jeff Burton is still searching for his first top 10; he had mechanical issues but still finished 20th.
Next up is the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway, next Sunday at 3et on FOX.
