In a Friday night battle under the lights the NASCAR Nationwide series was in Richmond, Virginia for the Bubba Burgers 250.
Series regulars like Justin Allgaier and Kenny Wallace were looking to beat pole sitter and last weeks’ winner Carl Edwards.
2 for 2…
Denny Hamlin won his charity race on Thursday night after Kyle Busch ran out of fuel. On Saturday night Hamlin started 11th but quickly made his way to the front. Hamlin dominated after leading over 199 of the 250 laps.
With the race looking like it would come down to fuel and when Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. ran out of fuel and the caution waved. Hamlin could hit pit road and running out of fuel would not be an issue.
On the final restart Hamlin was able to hold off a hard charging Paul Menard as caution waved for a incident behind the leaders. Hamlin won for the 11th time in the NNS and will be looking to make it three for three on Saturday night in the Sprint Cup series.
Confident Kenny…
It has been a long time since Kenny Wallace has been competitive in the NNS and Friday night was the coming out party for him. Driving for RAB racing and sitting ninth in the points Wallace ran in the top 10 all night long.
After starting seventh he worked his way all the way up to second before the first caution waved just before halfway. Wallace would be forced to hit pit road before the final caution waved for Stenhouse running out of gas with less than 10 to go.
On the final restart Wallace didn’t take the wave around and wound up finishing 14th. Wallace had one of the best cars under him in a long time. Wallace is still ninth in the standings.
