The Edmonton Eskimos kind of sort of showed up for their home opener of the 2010 CFL regular season. The esks, were thoroughly trounced 25-10 by the BC Lions in front of the home crowd at Commonwealth Stadium. The Lions dominated the game thanks to running back Jamal Robertson and his 168 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. 40 year old Lions kicker Paul McCallum tied his own team record with six field goals and QB Casey Printers had 260 passing yards on the night. The Eskimos, were unable to get much going the entire game as QB Ricky Ray was hit early and was hit often throughout the game but was still able to throw for 229 yards in the loss. Turnovers hurt the Eskimos as BC recovered two fumbles, one of them being a fumble by receiver Skyler Green who lost the ball when he was hit returning a punt in the 3rd quarter.
The Lions now join the Calgary Stampeders and the Saskatchewn Roughriders at 1-0 in the Western Division while the Eskimos become the only team in the west without a win.
The Eskimos play the Montreal Alloutes next week on July 11th and the Lions return home to Vancouver to take on the Roughriders on July 10th. I wont be able to report on the Montreal-Edmonton game as I will be in Trinidad but I will be back for the Eskimos week 3 rematch vs BC.
