Late Hits Vol. 12: Our Weekly Roundup of Browns News You May Have Missed Last Week

Jacksonville Jaguars v Cleveland Browns

Welcome to Volume 12 of "Late Hits", ClevelandSportsGirl's review of what went down in Browns Town last week.

Hide Your Wallet, Your Liquor, And Your Daughter: Someone Let The AFC North Players Out!:

Every die-hard NFL fan believes their team will kill them someday. If you're an AFC North fan, the odds of this happening may be greater than you thought.

Of course, you probably envisioned this coming in the form of a heart attack in the third quarter of your team's next  Superbowl appearance. Turns out, it may be more a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time on a night when someone made a mistake and let the players out without supervision.

The AFC North has appeared to be a hotbed for players' criminal activity in recent years, and now we have proof: someone compiled a list of the arrests of roster members of every NFL team since 2000. Unsurprisingly, the Cincinnati Bengals are at the top of the heap with 31 arrests.

The Browns are 9th in the NFL with 20 arrests since 2000, Pittsburgh is 14th with 16 arrests, and Baltimore is 16th with 15. All four AFC North teams rank in the top half of the league for players arrested in the last decade.

In case you're curious, the best behaved players appear to be on the Rams roster. St Louis ranks last in the league for arrests with just six since 2000. See the whole list here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/nfl/arrests-database/

Eric Mangini Has Seen The Future, And It Involves The Wildcat Formation:

During a slow time of year for NFL news, it never hurts to a) state the obvious, and b) stir up a mini-quarterback controversy.

Not much has been said about the Browns triad of quarterbacks over the last few weeks other than that Colt McCoy will likely not be much of a factor in 2010, but Coach Mangini did give us a little something regarding Seneca Wallace earlier this week.

In a truly "duh" moment, Mangini shared that Wallace will be a factor in the offense next season in plays that will also involve Josh Cribbs. The implication is of course that the Browns will run Wildcat plays using Wallace in a manner similar to what the Eagles did with Mike Vick last year.

Perhaps more interesting, Mangini directly stated that Wallace could unseat Jake Delhomme from the starting QB spot. While it's early to be drawing any sort of real conclusion about what Mangini thinks of Delhomme based on this statement, it does imply that the starting QB job may in fact still be up for grabs.
