Lambeau Field is the greatest stadium in sports, no doubt about it. It had so many legends who played in Lambeau. Now, I'm going to refresh your memories of historic Lambeau Field legends.
First, the Packer legends who played or coached in Lambeau.
Vince Lombardi is the most famous coach in NFL History. He coached the Packers to one of the greatest runs in NFL history, maybe the greatest.
Lombardi guided the Packers to multiple titles and eventually coached the Washington Redskins, but he is remembered as a Packer.
Then, we get to the famous players that wore the green and gold.
Paul Hornung, Bart Starr, and Jim Taylor are the four legends that I'm going to talk about.
There are a lot more Green Bay legends but these guys were the main players of the Lombardi era.
Hornung won the Heisman Trophy with Notre Dame by a close vote. After that he went on to the NFL and played for the Green Bay Packers.
He came in as the highest paid player in the NFL at that time with the biggest contract ever. The contract wasn't even close to what the average player makes today.
Hornung played running back, quarterback, and sometimes wideout. He was a versatile player on the football field.
Then, we go to Bart Starr the quarterback of the Lombardi Era Packers.
He didn't throw much for Green Bay due to the Packers successful running game. Besides, no one really passed that much back then
Even though he wasn't the main player on offense, Starr was clutch for Green Bay in the biggest games.
For example, he made the game winning quarterback sneek against the Dallas Cowboys in the infamous "Ice Bowl." Starr was the first clutch quarterback in the NFL.
Now, we highlight Jim Taylor who was the main man who ran the power sweep for the Green Bay Packers for Vince Lombardi.
Taylor was a very tough player. He could play through anything, the blizzards of Green Bay or even in the humidity of the sun.
Lombardi relied on Taylor the most to get the job done on offense for the Packers. He was the main player in that style of offense.
Taylor is the orginal north and south running back. He enjoyed running over people.
Lombardi, Taylor, Starr, and Hornung were the keys to the success of the Green Bay Packers.
If Lombardi never coached the Packers, who knows how the NFL would look right now.
These men were truly Green Bay Packers legends.
