On Saturday night the NASCAR Nationwide series headed to Iowa for a short track rumble on the popular track.
Trevor Bayne pulled out some history on Saturday afternoon becoming the youngest driver to win three consecutive poles.
His goal was to finish first on Saturday night, but they had to survive the first lap.
Morgan Shepard in the no. 21 had contact between Tayler Malsam and Mike Bliss was alos involved bringing out the early caution.
The field went to green and Busch pulled away from the field but Bayne was not too far off the pace. Bayne was running down Busch as he worked traffic.
Bayne was battling Busch for the lead on lap 43 when Tony Raines had a tire go down. He hit the wall hard but was able to make his way back to pit road.
On that same lap Reed Sorenson had a tire go down; he was not so lucky. He cut a tire and hit the outside wall hard. He was okay and walked away but his night was over after he worked his way from 27th to 12th in that run.
The leaders hit pit road for tires, fuel and adjustments as the track began to change. On the restart some drivers took four tires others took two. Once again Bayne and Busch were the class of the field. Busch held the lead but Bayne hunted him down and took the lead with some great side by side racing.
On lap 94 Colin Braun cut a tire and hit the outside wall hard. Brian Keselowski plowed into Braun, also Paul Menard and Jeff Green all involved.
The field after the red flag was lifted hit pit road. Four tires and fuel set Busch back to the lead and Bayne would restart second.
On the restart Busch was able to pull away from Bayne who made no adjustments on that stop. Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski were suddenly in the picture as Bayne was struggling to hold onto second. Meanwhile while those three battled Busch was able pull away.
Steve Wallace was in fifth and was licking his chops as Bayne, Keselowski and Harvick battled for position.
On lap 107, Menard spun bringing out the caution and bringing Busch back to the pack. The leaders stayed on track and did not hit pit road.
Busch was able to pull away as the battle was on for second to fifth with Bayne, Keselowski, Jason Leffler and Wallace.
Caution waved when Brian Scott blew a tire and the entire field hit pit road again for tires, fuel and more adjustments.
Busch’s big lead disappeared but he retained the lead off of pit road. On the restart Busch once again pulled away but Harvick and Wallace were battling for second.
Harvick pulled away from Wallace who lost third to Bayne. Keselowski restarted ninth after a long pit stop worked his way back into the top five.
Caution waved with 46 laps to go for Mike Wallace who tire blew and he hit the wall hard.
The cars hit pit road for a mix of two tires and four tires. Harvick would take two and would lead the field to green.
Busch was able to work his way in about two laps to second. Harvick with two tires was holding position with less than 30 laps to go. With 24 laps to go Busch took back the lead and Harvick fell back to second. Busch just checked out and pulled away and the battle was on for second on back.
Busch went on to win his ninth race of the 2010 season.
The rest of the top 10 were Harvick, Leffler, Keselowski, Bayne, Wallace, Michael Annett, Allgaier, Matt DiBenedetto and Carl Edwards.
